BARREL OR ROUND TIP?
You're here
BARREL
Fuller & Warmer
More surface contact, fuller drum tone, richer cymbal wash. More volume per hit. Great for live settings and drummers who want a bigger sound.
ROUND
Focused & Articulate
Precise, defined attack. Cleaner cymbal tone with less wash. Better for studio work, jazz, and situations where articulation matters most.
GOT QUESTIONS?
Barrel tips have a larger, wider surface area that contacts the drumhead and cymbal. This produces a fuller, warmer tone with more volume and cymbal wash. Round tips are smaller and more focused — giving you precise, articulate attack. Same hickory body, different sound character.
Slightly — the barrel tip version weighs 4.5 oz per pair vs 4 oz for the round tip. The extra weight comes from the larger tip and gives you a bit more momentum on each stroke. The overall balance and feel remain very close to the standard 5A Long.
Rock, gospel, worship, and live settings where you want more volume and warmth from your cymbals. Barrel tips are great when you need the drums to fill a room. For studio work or situations where you need tight, articulate definition, go with round tips.

Hickory is the sweet spot — denser than maple so it doesn't break as easily, lighter than oak so it doesn't fatigue your wrists. The natural shock absorption means you play longer with less strain, and every pair feels consistent.

Got to test them yesterday and loved em. Quality is top notch.

These drumsticks they’re pretty straight they haven’t broke on me and me. I’m a hard hitter and for these to not break that’s amazing. I want to try the 5B barrel tip next time just for a little more weight that I would like.
Tashannon J.5/5Verified
The feel is great. It's smooth. It has a nice rebound and not super heavy but enough not to break if you play too hard and it'll last a long time.

Love these sticks and how on the ball the company is. I haven’t even chipped a tip through 3 sundays and i usually loose a tip at least every Sunday - sometimes even in rehearsal, these sticks are my go to sticks now.
Anthony M.5/5Verified
Excellent product! I think I'll go for the 5B long next

By far the best well balanced sticks I’ve used in all of my 23 years of playing drums would definitely like to be endorsed by woodies
Tyrese L.5/5Verified
Returning custom i switched to try the 5A barrels not normally a 5A guy but man i absolutely love these same as the last ones perfect balance but im weird and like a little bit of stick tape on the back of the stick to throw some of the balance to the back of the stick its just perfect im serious when I say ill never use another brand for sticks this is my perfect match nothing comes close to it and am so glad they have barrel tips now when im out on the road people always ask what gear I like using and the first thing I talk about is this brand and sometimes give a pair out so other's get a feel for why i love these sticks one day I'll be able to justify asking for an endorsing for this company guy's at woodies keep up the great work and practice of making perfection peace out D

Now THESE are sticks I can truly trust.
Cromwell P.5/5Verified
Balanced, length feels right, uniform wood grain, Cool red stripes, barrel tip makes a nice definition on ride cymbals.
100% sold on the 5A.
Soon will try a 7A wood tip for my jazz kit.

These sticks are super comfortable. Glad I found them!

Great sticks! Took me about 4 months to even chip a stick when typically it takes about a week

The Woodies 5A Long barrel tip sticks are simply the best sticks I’ve used. The long taper, balance and weight provides an extra level of comfort that translates into an extra level of confidence. The barrel tip produces great definition on both cymbals and toms. Thank you Woodies!!

Repeat buyer of 6 pr of 5A Longs every 2 months or so! I talk about them frequently on my Washedup Drummer tiktok page during livestreams.
Scott L.5/5Verified
Being that play an average of 4 hours straight each show (6 shows a week), I use to run through sticks. I'd spend way too much money. With Woodies balance, quality, and durability, I go threw a 3rd of sticks and obviously brings my cost on stick purchases down. Highly recommended for everything you're looking for in a company!! Where is the endorsement papers?! Lol... But seriously....

Woodies 4 life!!!

Just not for me. I prefer the 5b long instead. But nothing wrong with the sticks themselves.
Dan D.3/5Verified
These sticks are super durable. I’ve been playing them a few days now. The weight and balance is dialed and I love how top heavy they are. It forces me to hold them properly improving my form honestly haha.
Dalton J.5/5Verified
The barrel tips seem to break faster than the round tips. These sticks still feel and sound great, but they have broken pretty quickly.
Skyler D.3/5Verified
Longer length and a slightly larger tip

Great sticks

They are awesome sticks, and I’ll use them for training, it they are much much thicker than a traditional 5a. I think I will have to go with your 7 size options.

I’m a touring drummer and i was in a bind and Woddies looked out for me like they always do.

The woodies sticks are Amazing!! They feel great weight consistent and durable!!

Great sticks!

I haven’t used them, I ordered them for my Grandson who keeps breaking sticks, he’s a beginner and playing too hard. I guess the music store in his town doesn’t have quality sticks. He lives in Dillon Montana.
I haven’t personally played Woodies sticks, maybe I should order some for me. I’m old and my sticks last a long time, plus I don’t play much anymore. 3 years ago I bought a vintage Rogers set to mess with.

Excellent drum sticks. Will be getting more soon.

Love Woodies, really happy to be an Affiliated drummer!

I have done this before. I like the feel, texture, length and barrel tip of the 5A. I have a 7A waiting to exchange for the 7A round tip when they come in.
Email me when you get them in.
Last Saturday I gave a pair to the drummer who was headlining 8 bands at a balloon race and he was gracious enough to let me sit in on his beautiful Yamaha Recording 7 pc with all Paiste cymbals. The 5A barrel tip impressed the hell out of him.
Thanks,

Greatest sticks of all time

I really like the sticks. The thickness, weight and length of the 5A long are perfect. Ive been using VF for years and gone back and forth between 5a, 5a extreme and 5b. None of those felt “just right”. Woodies 5a long definitely do. My only request is to make a set with acorn tips. I’m not used to barrel tips, and while I’m starting to get the feel for them, this exact stick with an acorn tip would be unbelievable. Either way, these are my new go to sticks, but again, an acorn tip would be AWESOME.

I have used most brands of sticks over the last 50yrs but I love the Woodies stuff ,The extra length 5a with the barrel tip are perfect for my current band playing 60's and 70's rock ,been using them for a month or so and haven't broke one yet. This is coming from a guy that would snap 2a and rock size sticks on a regular basis .Keep up the good work.
Frederick P.5/5Verified
Woodies is the best drumstick I have ever used. You got me for life.
Travis M.5/5Verified
Getting better all the time. Would love a bit longer taper.

I’ve been playing drums for the past 40+ years and these sticks remind me of how stick were made in the past they are very balanced and durable. I play at Wellspring Church formally Southwest Church on the worship team and these sticks lend themselves themself to every feel and style of music we play.
Reymundo M.5/5Verified
These sticks are great. They’re very adorable and could take a beating. I love the five a long barrel. Definitely found a new home.
Oscar R.5/5Verified
Great sticks!
Todd B.5/5Verified
Great feel in the hand, more stable a bit denser and better balanced than my previous go to (Vic Firth 5A Extreme). Holds together longer. I was breaking a tip in half within 10 minutes of every new stick and these survived about 10 hours of playing before any sheering or cracking in the tip. I also play with mostly rims hots for snare hits and have typically turned a portion of the stick about a third of the way up to shreddy toothpicks the first rehearsal or gig. Again about 10 hours of playing before any visual wear.
