Same 2B hickory body — the difference is all in the tip. Barrel tips have a wider surface area that produces the fullest, warmest drum tone and richest cymbal wash in the lineup. Round tips are more focused and articulate. For maximum volume on a live stage, barrel is the choice.
The 2B barrel comes in at 4.75 oz vs 4.9 oz for the round tip — very close. The balance and feel remain essentially the same, with the main difference being the warmer, fuller tone from the larger barrel tip.
Rock, metal, hard gospel, punk, and any high-energy live setting where you need maximum volume and cymbal presence. Barrel tips fill a room like nothing else. For tight, precise studio work, round tips are the better fit.
