BARREL OR ROUND TIP?
You're here
BARREL
Fuller & Warmer
More surface contact, fuller drum tone, richer cymbal wash. More volume per hit. Great for live settings and drummers who want a bigger sound.
ROUND
Focused & Articulate
Precise, defined attack. Cleaner cymbal tone with less wash. Better for studio work, jazz, and situations where articulation matters most.
GOT QUESTIONS?
Barrel tips have a larger, wider surface area that contacts the drumhead and cymbal. This produces a fuller, warmer tone with more volume and cymbal wash. Round tips are smaller and more focused — giving you precise, articulate attack. Same hickory body, different sound character.
Slightly — the barrel tip version weighs 4.5 oz per pair vs 4 oz for the round tip. The extra weight comes from the larger tip and gives you a bit more momentum on each stroke. The overall balance and feel remain very close to the standard 5A Long.
Rock, gospel, worship, and live settings where you want more volume and warmth from your cymbals. Barrel tips are great when you need the drums to fill a room. For studio work or situations where you need tight, articulate definition, go with round tips.

Hickory is the sweet spot — denser than maple so it doesn't break as easily, lighter than oak so it doesn't fatigue your wrists. The natural shock absorption means you play longer with less strain, and every pair feels consistent.

So far I have bought 9 pair, have played multiple Sunday services, 3 gigs in that time frame and I hit pretty aggressively. Before I was a big fan of the (Promark 747) and had great issues busting sticks up the shaft every 2/3 services, I went with the 5a long barrel tip and haven’t went through a single set yet, am just now starting to see normal wear from rim shots. Very satisfied and am a lot more confident in my purchase, so much that I put one of the woodies stickers on my truck! 🤣 Very happy with them over all!
I have tried both the 5B / 5A long sticks and I’m very impressed I love the feel of the 5B but also love the length of the 5A Sticking with the 5B because I’m quite the heavy hitter I’ve been on 3 shows and counting now with pair number one ! For me , that’s unheard of lol 3 , 90 minute plus , hard hitting shows !! Great sticks , great company !
I have finally found a pair of stick that can withstand how hard I play. I orders the 3 pack but only needed one pair. All the previous sticks I have used in the past would last one night. But these stayed strong for 2 nights in a row. Excited to continue using these and spread the word of the wonderful product you provide
Living in Mongolia and sticks are extra pricey. So it was worth paying the shipping to get them here. Super solid sticks! Thanks for making a good product. Oh -- and great customer service.
Saludos
I very much enjoy these sticks. They have great balance and good reach. I broke my first stick after one rehearsal and one show (basically 3 thirty minute sets). To be far, I strike really hard at shows. The break was center when usually the break is at the tip. Still very satisfied.
These are great quality. So far are holding up well. Definitely up there with the top companies. Competitive with pricing which isn’t easy for a small company to do.
These drumsticks they’re pretty straight they haven’t broke on me and me. I’m a hard hitter and for these to not break that’s amazing. I want to try the 5B barrel tip next time just for a little more weight that I would like.
Love these sticks and how on the ball the company is. I haven’t even chipped a tip through 3 sundays and i usually loose a tip at least every Sunday - sometimes even in rehearsal, these sticks are my go to sticks now.
Returning custom i switched to try the 5A barrels not normally a 5A guy but man i absolutely love these same as the last ones perfect balance but im weird and like a little bit of stick tape on the back of the stick to throw some of the balance to the back of the stick its just perfect im serious when I say ill never use another brand for sticks this is my perfect match nothing comes close to it and am so glad they have barrel tips now when im out on the road people always ask what gear I like using and the first thing I talk about is this brand and sometimes give a pair out so other's get a feel for why i love these sticks one day I'll be able to justify asking for an endorsing for this company guy's at woodies keep up the great work and practice of making perfection peace out D
Balanced, length feels right, uniform wood grain, Cool red stripes, barrel tip makes a nice definition on ride cymbals.
100% sold on the 5A.
Soon will try a 7A wood tip for my jazz kit.
The Woodies 5A Long barrel tip sticks are simply the best sticks I’ve used. The long taper, balance and weight provides an extra level of comfort that translates into an extra level of confidence. The barrel tip produces great definition on both cymbals and toms. Thank you Woodies!!
This is my second purchase from woodies. I had been waiting to re-up because they last so long! I have spent my life destroying sticks at a fairly rapid pace and woodies definitely stand up to the abuse I put them through. The sticks are also extremely comfortable and feel phenomenal.
The sticks are 1” too long by design. I’ve been playing for 60+ years…..just can’t or don’t care to make the adjustment.
Also, the sticks are slippery. I’ll need to rough them up some or add some sort of sticky substance.
I feel that the barrell tip was lighter than the round. I had not broken the round tips, and believe me I am a hard hitter, but the barrellbdid not last long.
I wanted to try the barrell tip because you ran out of round tips.
I will stick with the round tip from now on.
The bead is just too small for my liking. I also don't favor forward weighted sticks. I gave these pair to my drum students too. Sorry, just not my favorite sticks. I prefer the Todd Sucherman Sig maple sticks.
The drum sticks feel good in my hands! They last for a good bit saves me some money they don’t always feel balanced good but it’s something you guys are still working on. Cant wait to buy some more keep up the good work
This was my first order. To give them a go, I just ordered 5A’s. I’m partial to longer sticks for the reach because I’m only 5’1 with a large kit. These have a great feel, weight, and seem durable for frequent rimshots. Next up will be the 7’s!
